Source: Frequency discords may delay 5G unrolling in Russia
MOSCOW, Dec 26 (PRIME) -- Russia’s State Radio Frequency Commission could fail to approve a trial frequency band to deploy 5G networks at its upcoming meeting because of disagreement with state corporation Roscosmos, a source familiar with preparation for the meeting said on Tuesday.
“At the meeting of the State Radio Frequency Commission on December 28, test bands of 3,400–3,800 MHz and 24–29 GHz for 5G won’t be endorsed. Roscosmos has not cleared the allocation of the range,” the source said. “It casts doubts on the deployment of 5G in Russia.”
Large mobile operators MTS and VimpelCom submitted applications to the service for the frequencies to test 5G in 2017. They want to unroll test zones for 5G in several regions.
The International Telecommunication Union plans to approve technology for 5G at the end of 2018 and introduce the new standard by 2020.
